Custom Disk Arrays

One of Fortian's specialties is rapid deployment of high-volume Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. These devices provide on-demand storage space for today's computing tasks, including data acquisition, long-term storage, document archival, and automated hot backups.

Using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) high-quality hardware and leveraging the constantly increasing volume of high-quality hard drive storage, Fortian can provide a remotely-manageable turnkey solution for your storage needs. All of our systems have RAID-0/1/10/5 reliability, hot-spare capabilities, and detailed utilization and reliability statistics. Currently available systems can provide online storage in sizes ranging from 2 terabytes to 18 terabytes.

Protocols

Fortian utilizes open standards and open source software to provide native UNIX access (via NFS versions 2-4) and native Windows access (via SMB and CIFS), as well as MacOS X access. Data can also be accessed via RSync, Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV, and network-aware version control clients (Subversion and CVS).

Monitoring

Fortian utilizes hard drives with built-in Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART), and provides monitoring, logging, and statistics via both the Simple Network Monitoring Protocol (SNMP) or via a monitoring web page, accessible with any web browser. The system console can be accessed via serial port, a connected Keyboad/Video/Mouse (KVM), a remote X Windows connection, or a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) client running on UNIX (including Linux or MacOS X) or Windows.
